If you want to stay healthy, there are some straightforward methods of doing it. For instance, to lose weight, you need to eat fewer carbs. You should get enough sleep to boost your energy and also drink lots of water to prevent dehydration. On the other hand, you might find some contradictory advice for staying healthy. Here are some healthy pointers that might leave you scratching your head.
1. Getting A Better Nap With Coffee
A recent study in Japan revealed that people who took coffee right before a nap had a better rest than those who didn’t. For the study, people took 200mg of caffeine, equivalent to the amount found in 2 cups of coffee. They took a 20-minute nap immediately after which they performed better on their tests than those who didn’t take anything. So, what’s the principle behind this?
The nap ended after 20 minutes, just the amount of time needed for the caffeine to kick in and clear adenosine, a molecule, from the brain. After that, the individual becomes widely alert. The adenosine molecule is simply a by-product of activity and wakefulness. If the levels of adenosine increase, a person becomes more exhausted. On the other hand, you can reduce the levels considerably with a nap as well as caffeine thus amplifying the nap.
2. Eat More To Eat Less
Choosing a snack pack of pretzels or cookies with about 100 calories might seem like a virtuous move. However, you’re likely to become hungrier compared to eating something substantial. The digestion of little amounts of carbs spikes the blood sugar levels forcing your body to demand more carbs. For the best results, you should consider proteins such as string cheese, peanut butter and an apple. These alternatives have higher calorie content with each serving, but the fat and protein content makes you satisfied very fast and for a long time. In the long run, you will consume fewer calories.
3. No Energy Drinks When Exhausted
Energy drinks have a lot more caffeine than that found in coffee. When consumed, they provide an energy boost which is fleeting and often comes with some side effects such as rapid heartbeat, irritability and much more. On the other hand, energy drinks contain taurine which is a stimulant for the central nervous system as well as a lot of sugar content for every can. Yes, the energy drink will give you a momentary boost, but you will crash right after and feel a little foggy.
4. Drink Lots Of Water When Bloated
When you’re feeling bloated, drinking more water might feel like everything is becoming worse but it can help a lot. If you are currently on a diet with high fiber content, you need to hydrate more for the body to work efficiently. The water together with the soluble fiber creates a gel-like substance. The gel reduces the bloating by affecting the motility in your stomach. If the bloating is a result of dehydration, it can be reduced accordingly by taking more water. Note that, when you’re dehydrated, the body uses the water in storage causing you to get a little bloated.
